We all feel that a broader view of salt racers would be great. However, the
golden rule applies . . . those who have the gold make the rules.

The gold holders only fund those programs they believe will garner the
broadest viewership -- that requires a great dramatic story. If viewership
numbers are good throughout the three day replays, I'd bet any money that
more money will be made available to shoot additional, in-depth shows.

For 21 years I have learned all too well the sting of rejection when
pitching stories to editors, program directors, producers, et al. When you
finally get one approved, you don't bitch, but pitch in and do your best to
tell the most engrossing story possible. People get left out. But better
that and keep the story line intact than try to please everyone and lose
viewer interest . . .as easy a push of a remote control button.

It is my hope this program and others like it, will inspire people to become
curious about the salt, to some explore its barren beauty and find upon it
those feverishly fast folk that have astonished me for years on end.

My only complaint came in the form of factual errors:

1. Al Teague is not a construction worker;

2. Andy Green did not have a double chute failure on a supersonic run (he
only ran 714mph);

3. The timers were not FIA, but our own SCTA Chief Timer Glen Barrett. The
FIA guy sat on his butt in comfy chair and never did a lick of work, other
than observe. If anything I'd bust director Mark Everest's chops about not
giving some credit to SCTA/BNI.

In conclusion, the show was a fine tribute to a great American sport that
has been too long ignored by the media. I salute Pioneer Productions and
thank them for taking the time to weave a wonderful story about grand
adventures that only a daring few will ever do.
