Hi Malcolm;
All true enough but at least the FIA still separates the class A
"Automobiles" from the class C  "Land Vehicles".  My compatriots and I never
thought of any of the jet or rocket car records as "land speed records".
They are an exercise in preventing an airplane from flying more than an
automotive design problem. I think Don's turbine car is just great,
streamliners should be on the cutting edge of 'automobile' technology but
that doesn't mean I should run a J57 in my modified roadster.  As far as
other countries participating, I think the problem is a place to race. We
have had entry's from South Africa, Japan, Canada and New Zealand at the
Nationals.  The fame and notoriety you get as a FIA record holder is only
exceeded by the cost of certification.
