When I was unable to find anyone to re-build my BJ8 starter, I went with a =
gear reduction from British Car Specialist (the install was a nightmare as =
there was less clearance due to the hydraulics and I destroyed the copper l=
ine) and I love how fast and easy it starts. A friend took my original star=
ter to someone in San Jose who replaced the spring for $20. Anyone want to =
buy an original starter?

Further to that and, slightly on the defensive, I had just rebuilt my Lucas=
starter motor and was on the verge of refitting it when I thought, =93God,=
this thing weighs a ton and it=92s really not that good at its job. So, ma=
ybe swap it for something smaller, lighter and more efficient=85?=94 And th=
en, =93the WOSPs etc are shorter so I=92ll be able to fit a larger filter o=
nto my SOSO. So, I went to the Dark Side!

I=92ve heard it said by people that know about these things that BJ8s with =
their big HD8s need more life in their starters than, say, my BT7. ie WOSPS=
might be more necessary(?) in BJ8s.

And, further to Simon's experience, I can say that I have always been able =
to make an original Lucas starter work perfectly satisfactorily and never =
found the need to install a gear reduction starter other than on AHX12 and =
that was in the interests of weight reduction.

Just sayin' ??

Can=92t comment as to quality or price. I=92d only say that I fitted a WOSP=
unit some years back and, so far, it=92s been trouble free and, most impor=
tant, very effective.

Hi All,

I've decided to replace my BJ8 starter with a gear reduction starter from B=
ritish Parts Nortwest. The part number is: 16131AHD

Are there any opinions or experiences from anyone on the list as to whether=
 this is a good choice?

Thanks in advance,

Dave Masucci
