I=E2=80=99ve used silicone brake fluid in my BJ8 since the late 1980s, =
and have never had a problem with it =E2=80=93 no corrosion on or in the =
brake parts, and no stripped paint due to spills. It is not =
particularly hard for me to find, but it is more expensive.

I've had silicone in my BJ8 for over 30 years and 150K miles, and DoT4 =
in my BN2 for 15 or so years and just a few hundred miles (my dad put in =
in after a total system overhaul). The silicone has never caused a =
problem that I can attribute to it, but the DoT4 gelled once after the =
car sat for a couple years and recently one of the slave cylinders =
sprung a leak. Note the DoT4 that caused the problems wasn't Castrol.

IMO, either is fine, but you should flush and replace the DoT4 every few =
years. Silicone is available, but somewhat harder to source.

At this point in the restoration I have a completely rebuilt brake =

one?
