Michael- My guess is dirty fuel. Ethanol? Dirt specs in float bowls?=0AI=
f ethanol is used with "pink" Stabil it will create small black=0Apartic=
les in the float bowls and cause backfiring. If used with clear=0Agas it=
s not an issue. If you use ethanol fuel exclusively purchase the=0A"blue=
" Stabil...and yes I would use Stabil and possibly a fuel cleaner=0Ato g=

s] Austin Healey 100 Misfire Diagnosis.=0A=0A=09 This problem has plague=
d me for over 1000 miles. =0A=0A=09 Today I had to drive some 200 miles=
and this is how it went: =0A=0A=09 Starting from cold I experienced a p=
ersistent and irregular misfire.=0A=0A=0A=09 Pulling the choke out made=
no perceivable difference. =0A=0A=09 Power was not much affected and th=
e car cruised along well in top=0Aoverdrive with just regular periods of=
misfiring. =0A=0A=09 Climbing slopes really made no difference, even wh=
en full throttle=0Awas applied for 10 - 15 seconds. =0A=0A=09 Misfire co=
ntinued for some 90 miles with no change when the engine=0Awas fully hea=
ted up. =0A=0A=09 I could really do nothing to influence the rate of the=
misfire=0Aalthough it did seem to be slightly less evident at low throt=
tle=0Asettings. =0A=0A=09 After 90 miles I stopped briefly to get fuel a=
nd upon starting off=0Ait was quite evident that the misfire had disappe=
ared almost=0Acompletely and remained that way for at least 80 miles aft=
er which it=0Astarted to misfire just a little as I came to the end of t=
he trip. =0A=0A=09 POSSIBLE CAUSES =0A=0A=09 1. Plugs =E2=80=A6 not li=
ke a bad plug. The misfire seems to be more than=0A1 cylinder and never=
came close to being the regular beat that 1 plug=0Amisfiring produces.=
 All the plugs have a healthy brown/ grey=0Aappearance. =0A=0A=09 2. Co=
il =E2=80=A6 In my experience coils are very reliable but when they=0Ad=
o fail they tend to fail as they warm up and the problem gets worse=0Aas=
 the coil warms up =0A=0A=09 3. Points =E2=80=A6 a possibility but the=
dwell is set at exactly 60=0Adegrees and does not waver at all when the=
 engine is running in the=0Ashop. =0A=0A=09 4. Fuel pump =E2=80=A6 if t=
he engine was starving for fuel because of a=0Afuel supply issue caused=
by a blockage or failing pump the problem=0Awould get worse when the de=
mand for fuel increased, as in climbing a=0Ahill of full throttle. This=
was absolutely not the case. =0A=0A=09 Any ideas folks?=0A=0A
