Mercedes-Benz 300SLs have soared in value during the past 12 months, and the trend continued on Friday afternoon, as a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL alloy Gullwing rocketed to a record $4.6m at Gooding & Company's Scottsdale Auction. Bidding on the rare car -- it is one of 29 alloy Gullwings -- started at $2m and quickly ratcheted up, achieving a final sale price of $4.2m. Factoring in the 10% buyer's premium, the car changed hands for $4.62m. ron rader |
