[Healeys] Sender unit question

Hi all,

 

I broke the brass bolt used for the electrical connection on my sender unit.
When I removed the original bolt, it was wrapped in what looked like a wax
coated gauze material.  I figure that this wrapping insulates the two ends
of the variable resistor from each other and acts as a weather seal.  My
question is what can I use to replace this seal?
