I haven't been following this thread closely, but I looked at the
signature comparison, and then I looked at my Les Leston Stirling
Moss wheel ( purchased new from the Les Leston shop in London by my
uncle back in the early sixties), and the signature looks the same as
the engraved sample on Mike's site. Right down to the extra little
tick to the left of the "t".
I think they came up with a sort of "average" that would engrave well.
I know nothing about the individual item, but the photo of the
engraving is from a real Les Leston "Moss" wheel.
