There was a chain-style discount hardware store in our town.

Nothing more frustrating than hardware store clerks who were flipping burgers 
the day before.  My favorite:  I went into a Sears and asked the young man 
for a nail set.  He thought for a minute and said "Sorry, we only sell nails by 
the box".
