were completely gone--so the top of the spindle was held in place by  a half
inch bolt through a 1" hole!
The secret is taking tension off  the front suspension. Suggest you jack up
the front of the car by the lower  A-arm, then remove the wheel; grasp the
brake disc/drum and shake the whole  works in various directions--you'll see
where the problem is.
If  worn, suggest you replace the bushings with the soft plastic  bushings
available from various suppliers. They seem to give a better ride  than the
stock rubber ones.
Steve, That was all replaced 10,000 miles ago when I bought the car and  
rebuilt the front end, I will check them as you have suggested though.   Thanks
