Brian,

It sometimes takes a lot of force to loosen the hub nut.  Try wraping a
strong leather belt around it and twisting the nut.  Move to progressively
more aggressive means the last of which is probably a pipe wrench!  Remember
as you sit in the car loosen will be clockwise.
