FOT-ers,=C2=A0
I can attest to the information that Henry just sent. The Thursday afternoo=
n (charity) drive is like a =E2=80=9CMini-Me=E2=80=9D New England version o=
f what Road America does.=C2=A0
The drive takes you through Lakeville and Salisbury where folks line the ro=
ads to cheer and wave. In Salisbury, the cars wends=C2=A0through an assiste=
d living facility where the course bends back on itself and threads over co=
untry=C2=A0roads almost back to the track, where a=C2=A0left turn near the =
entrance=C2=A0leads to Falls Village, just=C2=A0a few miles down the road w=
here the cars are parked, beer and hotdogs can be consumed live music provi=
des a great background to peruse the race cars and street cars that partici=
pated. Around=C2=A0dusk, cars begin to leave. Unlicensed race cars without =
headlights (like mine) are escorted safely=C2=A0back to the track by the=C2=
=A0local Gendarmes. It really brings out some special cars, enthusiastic pe=
ople,=C2=A0and it=E2=80=99s for a good cause, usually the local food bank. =
(Gas=C2=A0tank full=C2=A0before you go!)
On Friday night, the track hosts a large dinner for the drivers and one=C2=
=A0guest=C2=A0under a huge tent on the hill overlooking the track. Wine and=
beer flow freely, and the food can be pretty good, too. After dinner, ther=
e is usually a featured guest who=C2=A0after a short interview, takes quest=
ions from the audience. Everyone stumbles off=C2=A0to bed happy.
This has always been one of=C2=A0my favorite weekends. The racing, the Sund=

ough the paddock-=C2=A0all great fun.=C2=A0
I am really looking forward to next years Kastner Cup.=C2=A0And I=E2=80=99m=

Friends,
Thanks to our own media maven Shawn Frank, we have been nudged to get=20
going with our first press release and the event poster! Those of us who=20
belong to the Vintage Triumph Register get the magazine, The Vintage=20
Triumph, and know that Shawn is the editor. Be sure to look for coverage=20
in every issue from the next one due in a few weeks all the way up to=20
the event next fall! Thank you Shawn for the great support!!!
Details for the event are starting to come together. I will share the=20
pertinent facts as they become available.
Event Poster: I have attached the event poster, thanks to Curt Johnston=20
for helping us with that!
Schedule: Test day is the Tuesday immediately preceding the event. The=20
track is happy to have racers park their race rigs at the track in the=20
assigned spot for the event on Tuesday, but you can't stay at the track=20
until Thursday. On Thursday, the track hosts a drive through the=20
Berkshire Mountains open to race cars and street cars alike, a real=20
treat for many. The drive ends in Falls Village, a quaint town a couple=20
miles from the track for an old-fashioned street fair. On Friday we=20
practice in the morning, qualify in the afternoon. Then two races on=20
Saturday, and on Monday morning we have another race before the main=20
event. We run the Kastner Cup race right after lunch with the ceremony=20
to present the Kastner Cup after the race.
Eligibility: The race is open to all Triumph powered race cars. The=20
caveat is, as always, tire rules. Cars must run on Vintage tires,=20
meaning no slicks. I urge any potential participant to contact me with=20
details of your car and we will do everything possible to get you in the=20
race.
Triumphs get their own run group: There could be some exceptions to this=20
one, if we get too many Triumphs registering for the event we may be=20
forced to bump the uber-fast cars to fast group, or a car prepped well=20
beyond Vintage rules may run with a more appropriate group. Same may=20
apply to some of the less-fast cars, we may have to bump them to a=20
not-so-fast group. But we will all race together on Monday afternoon for=20
the Cup.
Lodging: This will be a challenge. We urge everyone who is planning on=20
attending and not camping at the track to secure bedspace as soon as=20
possible. The closest town with a variety of known hotel chains is Great=20
Barrington, Massachusetts, about 30 minutes from the track. It is not=20
practical to identify a host hotel for this one, the hotels are not=20
large and get filled up early. An option some racers use is to double=20
(or triple) up and secure lodging from AirB&B or VRBO. There are houses=20
available in the area that work well for this. Also, there is=20
information on Lime Rock's website with some closer options, but none of=20
them are large and the scope of this annual event usually has them=20
filled by the same racers year to year!
Sponsorship: As always, there will be expenses that the FOT needs to=20
cover. We are soliciting donations for sponsorship as we have done in=20
the past. Please contact me, Henry Frye, with any questions or with any=20
interest in sponsorship. We will continue to use the gofundme page for=20
those looking for a convenient way to contribute.
Sunday: Lime Rock Park operates under a moratorium that prohibits=20
running race engines on Sundays. The track pivots on Sunday to host a=20
large concours and car show. Race cars are invited to participate, but=20
each one gets towed down to the front straight on the track as we can't=20
run them! We are in process of securing prime car show space for our=20
friends with their street cars. Our plans for Sunday are still in=20
process, but we envision some FOT gathering for dinner, libation and=20
socializing. Again, stay tuned for more details as they develop.
Feel free to reach out with any questions, I will do my best to get back=20
to you quickly!
We look forward to seeing you at the Lime Rock Historic Festival next=20
fall!
Henry Frye
