Thanks to all who responded to my question.=C2=A0 I was corrected on the f=
act that Triumph switched to negative ground when the TR-4A was implemented=
(1965).=C2=A0 The TR-4 was still positive ground.=C2=A0 But, the Roadster =
Factory lists the same part number for the TR-4 Generator (205939/AL) and t=
he TR-4A, so my logic is still correct.=C2=A0 Not that it applies to me, bu=
t I wonder if there is any difference when using this generator on a TR-4 v=
erses a TR-4A?
Thanks again.
Jack

Yes momentarily "flash"/put power to the genny field (small) terminal.

I just bought a new generator for my TR-3A.=C2=A0 The Roadster Factory list=
s the same part number for the TR-3 generator and the TR-4 generator.=C2=A0=
However, the TR-3 was originally positive ground, while the TR-4 was negat=
ive ground.=C2=A0Are these new generators set for positive or negative grou=
nd, or are they designed to handle either?=C2=A0 I changed the polarity of =
my car when I restored it years ago, so it is now negative ground.
My question is, do I need to polarize this new generator?=C2=A0 If it is se=
t for a negative ground, I'm afraid I might switch it to positive ground if=
I do that "flick" thing.=C2=A0 The instructions Albert sent me said to run=
a wire from the battery terminal which feeds the solenoid (positive in my =
case), then flick it against the field coil terminal of the generator.=C2=
=A0 OK, if I need to do this, which is the field coil terminal, the one on =
the side of the generator, or the large one on the end?
I don't want to do anything that will burn out my new generator or voltage =
regulator.=C2=A0 Thanks for any help you can give me.
