Many new vehicles have oil to water coolers. The engine coolant warms f=
aster and that heat is used to warm the oil faster. My Volvo V70 has it=
as does my Honda S2000. The Volvo one circulates coolant down to an at=
tachment on the oil pan. The S2000 one is an oil filter adapter that ha=
s coolant circulating thru it. Joe(B)

Interesting discussion, I have a mildly warmed up TR4A street car. D cam=
, 87mm, .100 milled head and lightened flywheel. No oil cooler but I do =
use the larger capacity aluminum oil pan. My issue is getting the oil ho=
t enough. Stock radiator with a Richard Good radiator shroud. Even at hi=
ghway speeds my oil does not get much above 180 / 190 when ambient tempe=
ratures are below 75 degrees. 180 degree thermostat installed. Driving a=
round town the oil never gets above 180. Ambient temperatures above 75 a=
llows the oil to get to 220 at highway speeds. I guess I could go to a h=
igher degree thermostat but I=E2€™d risk overheating in stree=
t traffic. I have an electric fan set to come on at 190.Any suggestion o=
n how to get the oil hotter? I run 20W/50 Brad Penn oil.JVV =
