It?s commonly used in the firearms industry to give corrosion resistance
qualities, and wear resistance, mostly on semi auto hand guns.
That?s the extent of my knowledge of the process.

Subject: [Fot] Nitempering
Has anyone here had experience with Nitempering (or Ni-tempering) a.k.a.
nitrocarburizing? It?s closer to Tufftriding than nitriding, apparently and it
gives the steel a certain amount of self-lubricating capability.
