FWIW, I use a variable speed 1/2" drill motor that only turns 850 rpm max.  It 
has been enough to get all of my ODs up to full
pressure (around 400 psi) and engaged.  I would think that 500 rpm would be 
enough to at least engage (which should happen under 200
psi), if you wait long enough.  It does take some time for the little one lung 
pump to build pressure at such low rpm, though.

If it won't build enough pressure to see on the gauge, check the non-return 
valve on the pump.  ISTR that Nelson wrote he was able
to fix one just by replacing the ball on the NRV; and there is a "Mr 
Finespanner" article that talks about shimming up the spring in
the NRV as being a quick fix for many units.

My "adapter" is just a short length of straight radiator hose, clamped to the 
nose of the drill chuck and the input shaft with hose
clamps.  Kind of mickey mouse, but quick, easy, and most important, works for 
me.
