Yes - google finds loads of info about this.

But I think that if ZDDP would so important than loads of engines - even
modern engines - would fail with cam trouble.
The design has not changed much over the last 50 years.

I believe in problems with geometry of the cam/tappet design as cause for
all this trouble, as my cam problem was solved with grinding the tappets
flat.
Before that I lost 3 cams.

Cheers
Chris

Google "ZDDP"

You'll get so much information, your head will explode.

Executive summary: yes, there is a correlation. The summary of the
correlation is that without ZDDP in break-in, cam failure is certain.
THere may be supporting data that without ZDDP during normal use that
failure probable - all things considered.

But there are other factors for excessive cam wear and you need to account
for ALL of them. Material surface hardness, proper materials in the first
place, proper break-in, proper valve spring pressure, proper rocker
geometry and so forth.

rml
