The weather gods werent kind to those who decided to come to the Glen this
year, with rain all day Friday and Saturday morning. Fortunately, there was
dry track for Saturday afternoons qualifying races and sunshine for
Sundays feature races.
This past weekend had a disappointing turnout of Triumphs, especially after
last year. The few Triumphs that did show up did very well. In Group 1, the
black Spitfire of Pat Ryan won Group 1 overall on Sunday and was running
some very fast laps.
FOTer Jeff Snook was there with his very pretty Lotus Eleven and was looking
good as always.
Dick Stocktons 63 TR4 and Bill Tobins 70 TR6 were the only big Triumphs
entered in what had to be one of the most competitive Group 3 fields that
Ive seen at the Glen.
Bill Tobin looked great in his TR6 and looked to be enjoying himself as
usual.
Dick Stockton had a dramatic weekend that started by qualifying 3rd overall
in the rain, just a few tenths off of Dick Tillingers Datsun roadster and
Bill Thumels trick Elva Courier. However, during the pace lap for the
Saturday qualifying race, some electrical gremlins cropped up and his car
lost power. He was able to get it refired, but not before falling to the
back and having to start in 35th place. In a yellow shortened race (4 green
laps), Dick was able to work his way up to 7th overall just behind the
incredibly quick Yenko Stinger of Logan Dernoshek.
