Ah yes /Rendevous, /a wonderful film. But, as with most things in film,
the truth is not what it seems. The car used was actually Claude
Lelouch's personal Mercedes 450 6.9, and he was the driver, not some F1
ace as has been rumored. The Mercedes is a pretty quick car in it's own
right and the camera hung off the front end inches from the ground
multiplies the speed effect. The sound is overdubbed and if you watch
closely, the sound track doesn't match the action. Additionally, some
intrepid soul mapped the route from the film and then was able to
calculate the actual speeds traveled. While they were over the speed
limit, they were not astronomical. Even so, it's still a very cool
little film.

Cheers,
Kurt O. (Who once took a taxi ride from the airport to a hotel in Paris
that felt a lot faster than that!)
