I saw this in person the last time I was over that way. It really is a neat
set up. As I recall they used a front clip from a very heavy duty front
wheel drive van and a long "car hauler" trailer for the rear.

And if you are running Mac OS X you just chuckle again.
So far no one has mentioned swapping a long pickup bed for a flat bed
sitting on the frame below the tops of the rear wheels and ramps. Is
there any reason why this is not a reasonable option? Just eliminate
the trailer altogether?
