FWIW if memory serves me right, and it probably doesn't, if you don't have
Kas's tools handy, in a pinch you can put in a lifter then place another one
upside down on the first one and check down to the face of the one on top.
At least on the 6-cylinder blocks.

gage on the number one lob on the camshaft.
