Hi everyone!
I just wanted to thank those of you who have assisted with the disaster
relief effort in any way. I totally understand that this is something
that will take a long, long time to fix, but those folks who have no
clothes other than the filthy shirts on their backs thank you for
sending clean, dry clothing and towels that they can use now, and water
they can drink. Both the money and the supplies will make a HUGE
difference to those in need.
The little community of White Hall, where I work (pop. ~7,000), sent one
tractor trailer full of relief supplies Thursday, under police escort
(the chief himself and some of his men) and with another truck carrying
extra gas, and are almost done loading up another full trailer-load to
send in the next few days. This is all based on donations from this
little community and its businesses. The American people have been
amazing in their response!!
On a sad note, Mom and Dad were going to try to go back to their house
this weekend to get the spoiled food out of the fridge, but they heard
from a friend in the area that an Entergy crew trying to restore power
to their area was fired upon, so they decided it would be prudent to
wait. This is on the West Bank in St. Charles Parish, a good ways down
Hwy 90 from the city! Some people are just idiots.
