Sorry - Spitfire with an 1147 engine. Jack was right about my .12 figure, I
just dropped a decimal point somewhere...
The pistons are marked .040, so maybe we just have a mismatch between the
block and the pistons. Everything was disassembled when we got it, so
that's a possibility I guess. We did get extra blocks in the package, so
will check those to see if we have something we can make work.

By your message saying .12 I'm assuming you really mean .012. That is 'way
too much. you need about .004 - .005 no matter what the model. I surprised
that you've accidentally come up with a piston / cylinder combination that
gives this much clearance. quite unusual. Sounds like maybe your block or
liners were previously bored out to .010 oversize and the new pistons you
have are for standard size -- that would give you .002 clearance, I think...
