Guys I'm trying real hard to stay out of this 'cause I see it as pissin' up
the proverbial rope. This battle has been going on for a LONG time & every
season I see more prod drivers get into other classes. The divisional ad hoc
commitees held things off for awhile but there are few of us die-hards left.
Even if they change the rules to make our cars competitive we will not be
racing with similar type cars. Sure we can band together & approach the scca
but I see it kinda like dealing with the military/big company attitude,
there really is no sense or logic etc involved, it's pretty much cut & dried
& that's the way it is. Also lets not forget the $$ part of the game.
Financial concerns are a big part of scca adding new classes, especially
when scca enterprises is the manufacturer/distributor/fixer of the racecars.
30 years ago the paddocks were full of BL bucks, sprites, midgets, TRs,
Healeys, spits etc & the BL banners & T shirts were all over the place but
those days are sadly gone. No more BL/BMC/JRT, no more support$$$!.
Personally speaking, my prod spitwad is not in compliance with current roll
cage specs so I recently put a "V" over the "FP" & a set of NOS BFG Spec
racer tires on it & it's a ball to drive! Granted my times are down a bit
from not having those sticky goodyear slicks but I will have to learn to
drive a little better. We are very fortunate here in Florida though & have a
very good vintage group. I can see no gain by doing major mods to my race
car just so I can run in FP with mostly sedan based cars & on top of that,
to be put in combined class group of who knows what? (Several seasons ago I
was the ONLY prod car at the track so they put me in FV group! yeah, great
weekend).
Now having vented my negative feelings, I am interested in what others have
to say? I don't keep up with "sports car" lately so I honestly don'y know
how other divisions are doing but I have seen major drop in entries at both
club & solo events here in florida. Sorry about the long winded note.
 Safety FasTR!
