TR 4 Overdrive

I have a few questions about overdrives.  My son has a TR 4 and wants an 
overdrive.  Being the A type is hard to find and I have a J type, can it be 
made to fit. We are building a new engin, but it will be used mostly for the 
street.

The second is, I wanted to put an overdrive in my 73 FP TR 6.  Will that take 
the abuse od autocrossing?
