There must be some advantage to having a quicker steering system, or racers
would not be installing them. I have been using the stock TR-3 steering box
and large steering wheel for the past 36 years, the theory being that if I
move the front wheels too quickly, I am more likely to go out of control.
This reasoning may not be right. During my many off-course excursions, I
have found myself juking the wheel and goosing the brakes, and telling myself
"Don't go over, don't go over".
I do have hopes of finding time to install a smaller steering wheel to give
myself more clearance to escape over the roll cage during a fire. This car
never caught on fire for 33 years. It then happened twice in the past three
years.
