The February 2001 SportCar had modifications of the HP rules 1296 cc
Spitfires. There sure is a long list of prohibited modifications and required
use of stock parts. Not implying here that it is much different than required
of other SCCA racecars, but it sure must make it challenging for the SCCA
Spitfire racers using nearly thirty year old stock part design and
technology. One has to wonder how much longer we will see Triumphs in SCCA
competition.
I hope that more of the vintage sanctioning bodies will open the doors to
allow these ex-SCCA cars to race as they are now race - rather than
converting them back to 1972 standards. We will lose some history if they are
required to retrofitted. So why not let them have their own race class and
have fun with us.
On the other hand, some of our SCCA Triumph racers might just be looking
forward to the change over to billet cranks, dry sumps, Carillo rods,
different gearboxes, modified manifolds, better brakes, Webers carbs, better
heads, etc. .......it make look to them as Triumph Heaven.
Best to All, Cary
