My understanding until last week was there was not a national SCCA
champion in various classes before 1964. However, I recently saw a 1964 Oil
Company poster proclaiming that that certain 1963 racers were national
champions.
The SCCA website starts listing champions in 1964, so there is clearly a
distinction being made with the start of the 1964 ARRCs by the SCCA. I assume
the Oil company had some basis for this claim. Does anyone know how the
national champion was proclaimed before the ARRCs?
