The inner wing to carb clearence on a TR3 is indeed minimal. I ended up
going with an itg air filter that TWM sells. It has a plastic frame with
foam sides and top that connects to a sheet aluminum back. TWM procides
the back precut to fit the carbs. I also used thier shortest aluminum
air horns. All tese are is a rounded lip that fits onto the sluminum air
cleaner backing.
Using the shortest of the itg aircleaners did not give me enpugh
clearence at the front. I ended up cutting away the vertical parts of
the plastic internal frame atht efront then used some hog rings to tie
the top of the frame to the bottom. THis is done without affecting the
integraty od the double foam level. I lost maybe 2 sq inches of filter
area at the very front side of the filter but gained clearence. Close to
90% of the air filter breathing space is through the front panel so I do
not think this mod cause any airflow problems.
MMy itg filter comes close to the bulkhead where the wiring harness for
the front right of the car is routed. I needed to slightly move the
harness to keep the filter from rubbing on the harness.
The end result fits, looks good and seems to work well.
