I gave up trying to purchace functional water pumps from any of the normal
sources two years ago. I guard with my life any original pump with a grease
fitting. Some of the seals may weep a little with the 16# cap, but the
bearings last and last(if the fan belt tension is correct). Sorry I can't
help, but I too would love to know if anybody has had recent success with
any of the reman pumps.

Subject: TR water pumps
Someone just wrote me (presumably in my capacity as VTR's TR4A
consultant) asking about water pumps - his 4A's original pump failed,
he put on another one without bleed hole and with "longer pulley" and
it failed, and now he's trying to figure out what to buy.
I haven't dealt with this on my car; I know we dealt with it on John
Lye's TR3A in Savannah, and I have a vague memory that there was a time
when everyone was selling the wrong pump, or the wrong pulley, or both
... but don't remember the details. I also think that one of the
vendors figured it out and is selling the right thing.
Can someone please refresh my memory?
