I've done the same with 1 exception, an undersized crank pully. Runs pretty 
warm at idle but cools to about 185-190 at speed. No mods at all to the 
impeller, though I've seen some vintage examples with two of the opposing 
impeller blades entirely removed (less cavitation?).
