Do you heave head bolts (usual case) or head studs fastened with nuts? If
the head has been overly milled (that would usually case come piston slap
and head or valve damage) you might want to try studs.
Head Stud
ARP AP5.000 7/16b dia. 5 or 5-1/4 in. long; coarse thread for
block and fine thread for nut
ARP AP5.250
Nut
ARP 10-APN12-1
Washer
ARP 10-APN1316N

'Course ARP also makes head bolts. http://www.arp-bolts.com/

hey anyone have experience with head bolts and washers to take up the
difference in a head?after being surfaced
i have a 2litre that has compression loss after less than 1200 miles on it
since rebuild of and notice the builder used washers
under the head bolt nuts it was 5 on one and 4 on another down to 2 in the
middle which i believe would cause the pressure to be different
when being tightened ? has anyone had their studs threaded longer to remove
the need to do the washer trick?
i know you can purchase shims for the towers to take up the slack if needed
but am struggling to work out a solution
for this problem
