It's been discussed in a couple of contexts. One discussed swapping in
the entire rear axle assembly from a late 1st gen RX-7. There may be
some cutting involved, but I don't remember. This setup comes with
both an LSD diff and disks, IIRC. Not sure how available parts are for
these units or what the axle assemblies or parts cost.

The second involved ordering a complete custom axle from Moser,
Currie, etc. IIRC, cost was around $1500, maybe a bit more with the
rear disk setup. The good deal here is that service parts are are
readily available and cheap, and you can get any gear ratio you want
for cheap, too.
