On my valve cover on my 66 I tried 2 cork gaskets and they severly leaked. I
then used Permatex Ultra Blue with no gasket. I put abut a 5/16 inch high and
wide bead around the head and placed the cover on it and finger tightened the
cover leaving a little to tighten after 24 hours.B I then tightened it a turn
and it leaked so I tightened it a little more and it stopped leaking. In the
end I tightened it pretty tight and was scared it may crack the cover but it
did not and itB has no leaks. Tightening it that tight is not a good thing to
do but it did work for me. I'm sure I'm way past the Tork specs.

I would suggest Permatex Ultra Black and stay away from the RTV blue, the blue
sealers tend to expand when they come into contact with oil (rearend dope) use
a bead around an 1/8" thick and be sure to completely circle the bolt holes.
