The All-Datsun Meet was great! Thunderhill was a blast, very hot for me and
my brother but it was truly memorable. I spun out in turn 14! Managed to
keep it on the track but it was scary. Another highlight was seeing Dan
Philbin and Will Campbell in their roadsters at both T-hill and Shasta. Next
time I'm using the soft-top for this trip, I'm seriously darker than Wesley
Snipes now:-)
The auto-x and gymkhana at Shasta were super fun. I maximized my run time by
being the "gymkhana whore" and co-piloted about 3 different cars in
addition to my roadster! They changed it this year and used a
birdcage/mail-man toss deal at each corner. It looked easy but it can be
tough delivering the mail!
The auto-x was a bit different with several figure 8s at the end of the
course. To no surprise the smaller cars dominated. Roadsters were ideal!
Jason Brainard in his SR20-powered '68 got the fastest time in his group,
while Dan Philbin in his '67.5 SRL got fastest time in his group! I have to
say that the returning sweeper back up the hill to the timing traps is the
best part. Will did a spectacular spinout and I took a pic of the skid
marks.I was down the hill taking video of his run.
I took a great shot of all the Shasta roadsters present, 6 was more than
last years' showing!
I got some very cool in-car track footage with my roll-bar camera.give me a
few days to digitize it. Got most of my sessions and my turn 14 spin with
Will and Dan! Look for a DVD in the near future as well.
Don't miss the next All-Datsun event!
