Matt,

Yes and no. :)

If the front cross member is notched, it will clear
the L16's oil pump. Allows the engine to sit low
enough to clear the hood.  Obviously, if you don't
notch the cross member, you need a hedious looking
hood scoop to clear the valve cover.  

If you are planning a swap, lots more work than
rebuilding a R16.  Still lots of succesful KA24
(240SX) motors, SR20DE (non-turbo) Japan Import, and a
few others that are easier to find parts for than a
L16.
