actually, bottled water costs less.  the comparisons oft-cited compare apples 
to oranges, then expound on the difference.  a cheaper gallon of gas around 
here (pasadena, ca), is currently $2.25 for regular, self-serve.  a gallon of 
bottled water (e.g., arrowhead, my fave) is typically less than $2.00, with 2.5 
gallon bottles for less than $3.00.  the clever comparisons of the price of 
gasoline by the gallon and water by the pint bottle are meaningless.
