New problem. The starter I installed this past weekend was one of the
old long ones. The only way I could get it in was to remove the intake
manifold. While at it I drained the block and replaced the manifold
gasket. Idles much smoother now so I figure I had a leak in the old
gasket. The trouble is that when I get to about 3800 rpm, especially
under load, the car starts coughing or missing with an occasional
backfire. If I run without the air filter it is a whole different car
and so much fun! Well, I hadn't replaced my air filter after all the
fires here in the fall so I figured that was my problem. Installed a
new air filter and I still have the problem. Any ideas?
