Take it from someone who has purchased pretty much an entire U20 engine 
rebuild. 1500-2000.00 will almost get you a new top or bottom end, but not 
both. Timing and cylinder head costs are the real killers with pistons 
getting honorable mention.

are going to set you back prohably 1,500 - 2,000, maybe more, if you
need
timing gears, chains, and guides. Then rings, bearings, gaskets, valves,
new
bolts, pistons, valve seals, valve springs,  and while the motor is out
you
should replace the clutch, throughout bearing, pressure plate and
clutch.
