Ouch. Yes, the threads are probably munged. Go easy with trying to
retap them; you could lose too much metal and end up with a real
problem.
ALSO, you run a serious risk of dropping shavings into the exhaust
ports. Some of those shavings WILL end up inside the cylinder.
Proceed with LOTS of caution!
