Ouch, sounds drastic. What about using leverage - a long breaker bar and 
socket? Always works for me.

P.S. Maybe we should change the subject title. After seeing it a dozen times it 
might become a subliminal message to your hands to actually try dropping things 
in there!

Hi 
    The old cold chissel and big hammer works pretty well for me in undoing 
the Crank pulley bolt. The trick is to hit it at a counterclockwise angle. 
You can allways file down the burr later, thats the least of your problems.
