Kyle,

I'm getting ready to dig into my 4 speed, and would like to hear more about
your experiences as you proceed.

TIA...Robert - 67.5 1600 - Abq

Hi gang-

...got some news on this beast.... I called a local ole-time trans
shop (had a nice pic of a Hotrod in their ad, figured they were
probably my kind of folks;-). Talked with the guy for a minute,
explained I just needed some disassembly help, and he suggested I
call a guy who worked in the parts dept of our local Nissan dealer.

I was impressed that the guy would turn down money to do me right!

So I called the guy at the dealer. A fellow Z and Roadster owner,
he was glad to help. He cruised over after work, and explained a
few things to me, which may help folks trying to tear into their
own transmissions. If all goes well, I'll put together a web page
with the info, but for now:

Press not needed! Gear puller, brass hammer, punches, HUGE crescent
wrenches are as special as the tools get.

To get any of it apart, you have to take the whole thing apart. That
was my major stumbling block... if you take it apart from the back
forward, (speedo worm gear, bearing, reverse/5th stuff) you can pull
the mainshaft out. Once that's out, it's a matter of snap rings and
whatnot; The countershaft 5th gear has a bolt on it, then you need to
use a gear puller to pull the 5th gear and bearing off; then snap
rings, and the countershaft is out. The large philips head screws
(WHAT were they thinking?!?!) are only removed for taking out the
center bearings, luckily I don't need to go there.

Hope this helps somebody!

Kyle
