Back in my ill-considered youth I was briefly enamoured of an early '70s
vintage Triumph
Spitfire that was in the showroom of the local Jag/MG dealer. When I enquired
at the local
import auto parts store (whose owner campaigned an XK120 in vintage events) as
to their
opinion of the Spitfire, I was asked, "Do you like to work on cars? Do you like
to spend
your evenings during the week tinkering with your car so that you can take it
for a drive
on the weekends? If not, don't buy a British car... "
