Hello,

Just got back from a great day tearing up the asphalt with my racing club at
a local Fairgrounds parking lot in Petaluma, north of San Francisco. It was
the first time I auto-x'd since my '66 1600. I almost forgot how much fun it
was. But I was reminded pretty quickly once I got the green flag.

There were many different types of cars present from the exotic to the high
performance sedan to the classic Roadster. After the first round of running
the quickest cars were the Honda S2000's and the Turbo Miatas. Otherwise
everything else seemed to be a few seconds slower.

By the end of my fourth session only a few of the cars were faster then my
2000. Of the faster ones they were the Turbo Miatas and the S2000's. It is
unbelievable how fast those Hondas are in stock form. They sounded wonderful
screaming around the course like a hyper-sewing machine. Same with the turbo
powered Miatas. They were soooo fast. Very impressive.

The cars that ran .25 to .50 +/- of me were the modifed M3's and the Ferrari
355 (? I think that was the model) and the Viper. Otherwise all of the
others were slower that the Roadster. Those would include the M5, M-Z3,
'Benz SLK, Integras, Mustangs and a few others I cannot remember. There was
also a race Pantera there but that thing was just too over powered for this
type of racing. He was lucky to get within two seconds of me.

I found that the 2000 was wonderful on the Auto-x course. Lots of good power
for the straights and easy to "heel-toe" back into first for the tight
sections. Unfortunaltely the weak part of the 2000 was its massive power
making the tail section mighty happy. But of course this would be cured with
an LSD. I wasn't able to put the proper power to the ground even though I
was runnning with Yokohama A023 R's. It took the tires alittle time to heat
up but by then the session was over.

I left early so I dont know the final results but I think that I may have won
my class, GT-U. I will find out later this week.

See you guys in Shasta!
