Did you disconnect the heavy battery cable or pop the lightweight
one that connects to the lug on the smaller soleniod on top? I
suspect you popped the lightweight one.
If popping the solenoid wire kept the starter from cranking, then it
is NOT a starter problem, but either a bad ignition switch or a short
in the wiring harness.
