Hello,

The '68 1600 I have recently acquired has been sitting a good 10+ years, so
I am preparing myself to go through just about everything. I popped the
valve cover off, and surprisingly everything looked great in there. Not a
spec of sludge and still even the lightest coat of oil on the springs and
rocker arms. The car was supposedly running when it was parked.

So here I am thinking maybe it may not be so bad getting some fire back
into the cylinders. I drained out the old oil and pulled the plugs to throw
some fresh lube down the holes. I spun the engine a few times by hand just
to make sure everything moved freely and then hopped in the drivers seat to
crank it over and get some oil really moving through the engine. Sadly, all
I got was a faint click from the starter, so I figured that would just be
one more thing to tear out and go through. Not too surprising for the
amount of time the car has been sitting.

So I am underneath the car and- you have got to be kidding me!!!! Is it
possible to remove the starter from this car? It looks to me like if I can
even get the top bolt undone that there is no opening big enough around the
exhaust to get the thing out.

So are there any clever tricks, or do I start excavating?
