Transmission seal questions

My 67 1600 is scattered out in the garage while I wait for transmission
parts and am having the engine re-built.  In the mean time I painted the
engine bay with POR 15 and it looks really good.  I have a question on
the transmission and engine gaskets.  When I put all these gasket back
do I need to use a sealer on them like permatex or should I just put
them on dry?  Any advice would be appreciated.
