Paint tips

Hello all!

I was wondering what it would entail to "prep" my 1600 for painting.  Any 
suggestions.  I have a friend who will paint my car (experienced) but I will 
have to do the prep work.  
I really want to do this, cuz I have TWO RED roadsters and I don't like RED 
at all, especially TWO.
What would it entail to do a good prep.  Sander? what type of paper? what 
type of primer? etc. etc. etc. Any and all suggestions would be greatly 
appreciated.
