You may want to try the voltage regulator first. The stock unit can be disassebled and cleaned. That may solve your problems. If the alternator is bad ( siple test at most good auto parts stores ) try upgrading to a newer single wire GM alternator. See Tom Phelan's write up in the current issue of ZCCD.
