Bad oil leak

Hi,

It appears the rear main seal on my '69 2000 is leaking worse than ever.. i
now get a puddle under the car.. 
Will only replacing the lower half of the seal help at all ? Don't most of
all roadsters leak ?
I'm concerned about driving the roadster to Shasta in this condition, don't
want to have a case of oil in the trunk..
